Open Studios

I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the Art department Open Studio times. In the Design studio – HAAB 403, you can have access to computers, scanners, camera, the required design readings and some of the required supplies needed for you to produce the weekly assignments. There are also art studio techs who can guide you to the needed resources and/or help you with printing, camera, supplies, etc., issues.

Always clean up after yourself and hold all conversations outside of the studio.

Students with Disabilities & ADA

Westchester Community College (WCC) is committed to creating a learning environment that meets the needs of its diverse student body. If a student has a documented disability, it is the student’s responsibility to self-identify by signing up through the Disability Services Office (DSO) either online or in person. Once signed up for accommodations, the student must inform the professor via a Referral to Faculty notification provided by the DSO. A Testing Accommodations Request form must be completed online or in person no later than three business days before the quiz/exam date to allow for accommodations to be arranged with the DSO.

Westchester Community College is dedicated to responding to the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the ADAAA of 2008. Students with a documented disability, in need of accommodations, are responsible for disclosing this to the Disability Services Office (DSO).

You may start the process by completing the DSO Public Request Intake form and uploading your documentation at https://sunywcc-accommodate.symplicity.com/public_accommodation/.

Once documentation has been approved, each semester the student can make an online request for accommodations by completing the Semester Request through the Accommodate portal.

Students who have previously submitted documentation or have recently had documentation approved, can visit https://sunywcc-accommodate.symplicity.com/ to complete the Semester Request form through Accommodate.

When the request has been received and approved, the DSO will email professors an Accommodation letter at their SUNYWCC email address, informing them of the student's approved accommodations (including permission to record online class meetings).

Please note, that accommodations are not retroactive and not all accommodations from high school carry through to college. It is strongly recommended that the student discuss their accommodations with their professors at the beginning of the semester.

Title IX

Westchester Community College values and respects the self-worth and belonging of all individuals in our community and affirms their right to engage in an environment that is safe, nonthreatening, and respectful.

In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Westchester Community College prohibits unlawful sexual harassment against any participant in its education programs or activities. Sexual harassment includes quid pro quo (this for that) harassment, hostile environment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct or communications constituting sexual harassment as prohibited by state and federal law. This prohibition against sexual harassment - including sexual violence - applies to students, WCC employees, and visitors to campus.

Community members who have been or know someone who has been the victim of sexual violence, assault, harassment, stalking, domestic/dating violence, or any other form of sexual misconduct are encouraged to make a report to the College. Incidents of Sexual Misconduct should be reported to the college Title IX Coordinator, as outlined in the WCC Title IX policy. Westchester Community College has established and maintains an environment in which all commit to supporting an atmosphere of inclusion. Furthermore, the college asserts that a student’s education is enhanced when afforded the opportunity to acquire knowledge and appreciation of the rich diversity that we all bring. Respect for, and understanding a of, diversity in all its forms is a strong antidote for prejudice, racism, and discrimination.

Accordingly, the college shall strive to find the common elements that unite us, and the positive differences that strengthen us. If the situation arises, however, in which you wish to make a complaint about a faculty member, employee, or another student regarding alleged discrimination, the complaint should be taken to the Chief Diversity Officer in the Gateway Center, Room 134 or you may call 914-606-6313, or file an incident report online at https://www.sunywcc.edu/incidentreport.

The Department of Student Involvement host many events during annual celebrations of African-American, Hispanic, and Asian culture, in addition to a full range of multicultural events designed to enhance and build up our community while offering space for personal growth and development. The college also offers events and provides local and national resources for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Student Support Services

The Department of Student Support Services oversees two services for students. The first provides assistance and support in accessing benefits that can connect students and their families with resources to help relieve or even eliminate personal challenges such as food scarcity, housing insecurity, financial hardships, and more. Our office will meet with you; get to know you and your life circumstances in a safe, affirming, private, and friendly environment. We will provide support and help you identify ways to overcome obstacles. Before feeling like you need to withdraw from your classes or taking a leave from the college, come see us.

Student Support Services also offers student veteran support and engagement that is committed to providing Veterans and Reserve component personnel, as well as active duty, family members, and dependents, the support they need through a variety of programs and services, intended to make a seamless transition into the college environment. Weather Related Information

If class is canceled due to any reason, students are responsible for missed assignments. In this event, students must obtain assignments from the course website or Brightspace. Assignments will be posted the same day as the canceled class. Assignments are due the week immediately following the cancelation.
